Description In this tutorial we look at how to paint weights in maya, it is useful if you are rigging organic models. It is a short tutorial where I show some tips and tricks, in the end I show how to mirror and export weights.

1. The hands need to be combined into the same mesh, before you start painting the weights. (A general thing, you can only mirror/copy weight within the same mesh.
2. The naming of the joints need to be the same for example R_Hand_wrist_JNT and L_Hand_wrist_JNT for the hand wrists joint on right and left side.
3. Maya is very buggy when it comes to copying mirroring wegihts. So export your weights as image maps before you start.
4. You may need to press apply more than once.
